One quick way to describe a tragic situation decades in the making
and continuing, Matie.  It is really too bad that the Sudan's oil reserve isn't quite as large as the one underneath Iraq.  Maybe that would spur the West to greater lengths...

Incredibly frustrating
One quick way to describe it.

It is far past time, NightMajik. Sadly, with all those resources allocated
in Iraq and Afghanistan, the United States has put itself in a position of not being able to do as much as they should in places like Sudan.  Of course, this is presupposing that those self-righteous ideologues woul do anything anyway...

Interesting
Thanks for the update... I admit I did not even know about the Darfur genocide for quite some time, until last year. I'm ashamed that I could be so unaware, but I am doing my best to learn more things about what's going on throughout the world. Glad to hear that at least a bit of action will finally be taken on this issue.

The animists are the ones getting slaughtered, Corbin. There are not
that many Christians in the Sudan.  This isn't a Christian/Muslim issue.  It's a genocidal issue.  It doesn't matter that they're killing Christians; it matters that they're killing people, some of which happen to be Christians.

I'll believe it when I see it........
Something has to be done to stop the Muslim slaughter of Christians.......

It's unfortunate that such atrocities are allowed, TAPS, by powers that be
that can prevent them from occurring in the first place.

I know you are right.  That's why it is horrible to think about.

But it is a harsh reality of despotic, exclusionary regimes. Near the end
of World War II, the elimination of Jews and undesirables was stepped up in Nazi Germany, not lessened.  Part of this was due to cover-up, part was due to policy.  In Sudan, you have a religious extremism as part of governmental policy.  Anything kafir is targeted.  That is, anything that is infidel or does not allow the blessings of god to be part of their lives is targeted.  Of course, this is the exclusionist perspective of the ruling Muslim government.  Muslims allow for no other god but Allah. To think otherwise is apostacy and blasphemy and misguided.  Extremist Muslims have no problem killing nonbeleivers. The problem with the Bashir regime is that more often as not they do not even allow for conversion.  This also has a lot to do with traditional tribal and ethnic rivalries as well.  no matter the reason, a lot of people are dying from government-sanctioned violence or governmental apathy.  Both methods are effective...

What a horrible thought is your last paragraph in this post.

Absolutely, FG. It's criminal what isn't being done...

saul - I've been following the situation in Dafur for quite some time.
It's heinous what's going on over there and most of the world seemingly doesn't care.  So tragic.
