well...regardless of whether what we do here is "real" or not, I still think it's rude to blow off people who care about you (especially after you email and tell them you're worried about them).

Interesting post! I believe with any virtual world the key is not to get
too rigidly attached to a non reality. There are some lovely folk on Blogit, which I would love to meet and know someday I will. However, I realise that on meeting them I may realise - as they too may - that the picture you can conjure up about s/one on Blogit may be very different in real life meeting them. So, don't take it too personally when someone leaves without saying goodbye. We all dream, and some of us (SSS) dream awake! he he.

Me too. She was so funny, a good writer and she was in and to the top then out of here like a light. I miss her. Be blessed lady.

It seems rude and weird to me to just leave and leaves one with so many
unanswered questions. what would happen if I up and died?

posted by Kabu on August 1, 2007 at 7:37 PM | link to this | reply

dave--

how can it possibly not be rude to blow off people who care about you? Yes, not posting a goodbye is a personal choice, but they could at least respond privately to those who cared enough to email and express their concern. Dontcha think?

BTW, QuirkyQueen is still alive & kicking, she's just not interested in wearing the thorny crown. It's much nicer in Peasantland...

be careful, with all the bloggers leaving every month you might get a bald spot! LOL.

I don't really think so either but I guess I would prefer that scenario to the one where she blows off the people who truly cared about her.

there are several reasons that I know of, but I'm not going to go into them--except to say, one of them is that some bloggers just like to mess with people, and they create alternate identities to do just that. I'm not naming names of course, but the old-timers here know a few of them.

posted by Julia. on August 1, 2007 at 10:12 AM | link to this | reply

Julia, I don't think it's rude. It's just personal choice that some just slip away without a goodbye whilst others choose to say their farewells even if they're only going for a short while. I agree that it's disappointing though and can be frustrating. I have a friend who's disappeared from a different site and despite emails I've lost him now for 3 months. This is a man who I've actually met in the real world too and we had a fine old time. I've emailed and checked the site regularly, but so far he's AWOL and I've no way of tracking him down.

Getting back to Blogit, we come, we go, c'est la vie. What about Captain Gulliver? What about TytoAlba? What about QuirkyQueen?

Julia, I liked Presley a lot and I think people online do that because of
different reasons.  Sometimes their reasons are valid...othertimes I'm left scratching my head puzzled at the mystery of it all.

Hey Julia...I really don't think she was someone else...that would be

too much stuff to make up. I remember she had some cool blogs with all her graphics and animations. I didn't know she got into it with Passionflower, but she may have gotten so pissed she blew all of us off! Bummer! I am still surprised about Masky though too....

I guess I just don't get why someone would pay the money to pretend to be someone else? Where is there even anything to gain in that???

which one is still accounted for?

I'm going to post a query in Community to ask Blogit staff if email messages are forwarded after an account is closed.

Holy Grail--
yeah...Grouchy came back for awhile and left again. I am positive that if you emailed him he would respond, as long as it was the correct email address. He's not the type to ignore someone like that. If you do email him, tell him quirky said hello. I was very fond of him.

even so, it wouldn't be that difficult to just let everyone know with a short post, or at the very least respond to those who privately email the person.

Foliage--
No, I think I read somewhere that email is still forwarded when accounts are closed. In any event, we often already have the email address and don't even go through the Blogit system to send a note, which is what I did with Presley. Of course, they could change their email address, too.

hazel cricket--
that's the case if you just change your nickname and use the same account. However, many have opened up entirely new accounts and abandoned the old one...or in some cases, they have used two accounts simultaneously.

It is sad when they just disappear. I really miss tbgroucho. I should email him and see if he responds...I know sometimes I just don't have the energy for Blogit, but I think I've always invested less in it than a lot of people do. But yet, I always seems to come back. It's been over 3 years now and I've never completely gone away! I also really liked Presley.

It is weird that she just left without a trace...she seemed so "into"
blogit.  Oh well, maybe it was something she couldn't avoid?

Julia - I just wondered on something. When accounts expire here, maybe the
email no longer works?

posted by FoliageGold on July 31, 2007 at 6:26 PM | link to this | reply

Julia - I really don't know. There have been several others over my
'wee' time here at Blogit that have disappeared and I've wondered why.  Did they die?  Did they get married and move to Mars and blogging is no longer acceptable?  Did they fall into a black hole?  I don' t know the blogger of whom you speak, but yes, I have most often wondered.  Not just here but on-line in general.  It's very unsettling when we don't receive a good-bye or explanation as we have to find that place of closure on our own.

very rude, I'll have to find FG's post..I never knew Presley, but yea.....
I loved Mademoselle, and she disappeared, I e-mailed her, too....no reply.........I thought under previous names in our "profile" nothing was secret, my bad ? !

I agree, I don't think it's asking too much for them to give a small farewell. It's not like they need to have a big fanfare goodbye, but a few words so those of us who care don't worry about their welfare.

Hi Julia...Just popped in to say hello. I wonder too what happened to

Presley but I'm surprised to hear that she was someone else before...I hadn't a clue and now I'm so curious. I emailed her two times and nothing. She was a big fan of my art and had a mini art gallery of my stuff on her blog. So, I too felt connected with her and then poof...she's gone. If you have any suspicion as to who she was and/or is, email me..please! LOL Oh, and another one I'm upset over is Masky.....I emailed her last week and never heard back.

Maybe life just happens - something changes, other demands pull on their time, they've had their fill of Blogit - who knows.  But I tend to agree that if you've become familiar with someone, encouraged their writing or simply enjoyed it, a small wave good-bye would be nice.
