I agree that is their right. We only have a right to be there if invited or if they should attack us, which they haven't yet.

There are democracies of all kinds all over the planet, including the
Middle East, Damond. Lebanon is a democracy. Iraq might remain a democracy as well, yet they'll become one of their own making. More likely as not, they'll become a government much like Iran's, with a separate but overruling religious branch. But maybe not. We'll have to see. But it is not our right to determine what they become. It is theirs.

I personally would like for them to have a democratic nation.
I personally would like for them to have a democratic nation. I just think that is the best kind, but I don't think that part of the world ever will. The bible even says that they will be at war brother against brother and neighbor against neihgbor until the end. That may not be the exact words, but it is very close, and the meaning is the same.

There were many standing against the invasion around the world, panspen.
The ridiculousness of this entire contrived war, for whatever happens to be the reason of the day, will stand as a shame upon America and a scourge upon the Bush name. Regardless, thousands die daily in a war where the greatest achievement to date is that in over four years of war, occupation, and reconstruction the largest American embassy compound is nearly completed. Can't keep electrical power on all day but there's this huge conglomeration of buildings that prove how dedicated the United States is to the welfare and uplifting of the Iraqi people.

Powerful post, Saul! So many truths here, so glibly ignored or spun into
the blatancy of lies and more horror by those who pledge allegiance to an administration, instead of to the ideals our great nation was founded upon. Keep writing and sharing, maybe, most hopefully someday the truth will prevail and the age of reason/sanity will return.

It's a sorry, shameful mess that the US and the UK are in - that most of us could see coming. In 2003, a month before the illegal invasion, the largest 'Stop the War' demonstration was held in London. A million people took to the streets. Speeches were made by the great and the good. Harold Pinter, the playwright, described Blair (Bliar) as a 'hired Christian thug'. Did such a huge democratic display of anti-war expression have any impact on our elected government? We got their response a month later.

You are most welcome, lustorlove. Indeed, we as a nation should use our
wealth and power to the benefit of our own and the world's peoples, not at the expense of both (which seems to be the current policy).

I'm a student of history and love archaeological facts and exhibits. Some
of the greatest treasures in Iraq weren't protected during the invasion and the national museum was looted, even though it was within spitting distance of buildings that were.

I am not a last born, but I fear I am annoying at times because I am repeating myself so often, not because I need attention but because I just can't seem to remember that I already said it. Perhaps Bush is having that problem too. He is not far behind me in age.

Saul, I never felt more hopeless, clueless re. a solution in the world.PRAY
...yes the power of prayer--even if only to Mother Nature, or the UNiverse -- will move us to right action. PRAY AND DO SOMETHING TOO! I opened my Bible for a response to you...BOOK OF PSALMS chapter 113, 114,115. I lift these verses: 113,4: "The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens". 113,7-9: "He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill....and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord." The saddest part is that our human heritage & artifacts of many thousand years old --and surviving languages and Christian sects - are being wiped out of Iraq/Mesopotamia, the land of Abraham's birth (UR, Iraq). peace and power to the people
