I thought that hummingbirds feasted on mosquitos but mine aren't doing too well at that here.  Maybe they are filling up on the nectar I put out for them.  LOL

When mosquitoes lay eggs on my pond, the larvae make a fine feast
for my finny friends who are generally busy keeping the lily pads afloat.

Re: Hi, Naut, missed ya !
hazel, this West Nile virus appears to be spreading. It's not an epidemic yet, but it certainly bears watching...

Taps

Sorry to hear of your mosquito problems. We have been lucky: I have not seen a single mosquito in my backyard all year! Maybe it's because we have a lot of birds. It's an odd situation: mosquitoes go after birds, and birds go after mosquitoes, and in our case the birds appear to be winning.

If you could attract martens, by setting up a marten house for them, you'd see a vast improvement. You might also set up an electronic bug killer, although I personally dislike them. And you should definitely wear long sleeves! Unfortunately, West Nile is spreading...

I'm sitting here reading your two posts on mosquitoes and scratching like mad.  Every time I step outside I get bitten again.  I have two huge welts on my left arm and two huge welts on my right arm and one on my ankle and one on the top of my right foot.  They are driving me nuts.  Nothing seems to help.   Now I'm rubbing Ben Gay on them, the kind that burns.  At least I like the smell of that and for just a bit the burning makes me forget the itching.  I think it must be because the lakes are so close and the runoff from their overspill runs right down alongside our complex.  I'm sure there are little standing pluddles somewhere in those woods.  While I'm itching, I can't help ponder on West Nile Virus a bit.
