That, sadly, is the story everywhere.
Our shelter here is very good -- as good as it gets -- it's run by the Humane Society rather than the county and they do have good contacts and are well organized. I write something nearly every month about spaying and neutering -- the single best way to avoid all this. Deaf ears. Idiot attitudes.

and probably much the same at shelters everywhere in the U.S. It's just so sad. Damn, now you've made me 
I dream of seeing the day when there would be ZERO healthy animals put down. It's probably not going to happen in my lifetime, but I still dream it anyway.
