Re: Giving out visas?
Thanks for that well-thought out response to my blog. I'm going to do some soul searching and perhaps change my mind on a few things. In the meantime, I'm wondering if you would ask yourself if there's enough resources to help everybody everywhere?

Giving out visas?

Thank you so much for your rhetoric.  I have worked in the social service delivery system, and studied in America the Social Work field (I will not say how long), but long enough to remark.  I would like to expand your "box" a bit if I may, and challenge you to do the same.  Before I take you to this place I want you to just accept that your bias and social arrogance is in part the problem in dealing with this problem.  There are many people who are here by no choice of their own, they were brought here as children.

What would you propose we do about this population?

The problem with dealing with people as you propose, is that the us vs them attitude has always led to only social chaos.  What America should adopt is a policy of social justice, along that lines we just either give back all the poor, or we should agree that we are going to openly torment them.  Lets stop pretending that there is no class system here in this country, and there is no poor- lets just get down and dirty and talk about all the people not just some.  Social injustice, is not just a concept- it is quite real.  People who are poor without rights are quite oppressed, and our vow is that we protect the freedom of ALL PERSONS on this soil.  So while I support your right to have your social box, I want you to consider, that there are a multitude of causes and conditions that lead to poverty.  It is not a simple problem, rather it is the most real political topic this Nation has seen in years.

This topic is bringing out the bias and the resentment in our leaders, and before you join that social injustice ban wagon I would encourage you to pay close attention to this debate, you are about to see something shift in this country.  The changes that are possible have been long awaited by the social work profession for many years, and I believe if we pay close enough attention world peace may be close at hand.

Just a thought.

Best,

Tammie Anderson
