Interesting information, Food
Thank you for sharing. As I stated in another comment, I realize socialized medicine isn't perfect, but I believe statistics show that a population with access to medical care not tied to ability to pay is healthier and has a longer life average - infant mortality rates, for one example, tell a portion of the truth. The VA in this country is a shambles; a national disgrace, thanks to Bush and cohorts. My father, a Korean War veteran, received excellent care through them years ago.

Here's a "truth"...
Both the Canadian and U.S. medical systems are flawed, my mother-in-law is a landed immigrant Canadian and she has had to wait a year to get a replacement knee.  My mother in the U.S. had one done in easily one-forth the time.  However, I could not affort it unless I was on medicare, should I need one.  I don't like medicine for profit, but to see goverment health care, look no further than our own Veterans Administration.  I could go there, but I won't unless absolutely necessary.

Sick 'em, RaeS. Excellent post. I find Michael Moore an intelligent if
abrasive man who knows how to expose a situation for what it really is.  I rather like his work.  Given that we know that Moore isn't perfect and has made a few mistakes with statistics here and there, his points are almost always well-based and with a preponderance of documentation and examples as clarification.  We need more Michael Moores out there, on here (at Blogit), and constantly beating the drums of intellectual discourse and exposition to maintain the honest free flow of ideas that, in effect, contribute to a strong egalitarian society.  It is through obfuscation, denial, greed, hypocrisy, and fear (sounds like the Bush administration and politics in general, huh?) that you perpetuate the ills of a society.  At the moment, we're -- as a society -- perpetuating way too many ills.  Good work, RaeS.  Looking forward to your next drumbeat.

Hold yer horses there, Corbin..:) Really!!
I'll be comparing the advantages, disadvantages of socialized medicine vs. our greed based system soon. No system is perfect, but.. - Hint - proof of which is better lies in the statistics. I don't personally know of any Canadians who come here for treatment, but I do know several Americans who buy their prescription drugs from Canada because they are so much less expensive. Not saying there aren't any (and they must be quite wealthy..?) just that I don't know of any such stories. I am researching, though.

Re: Happy to hear, Dearest Ted..
Really???

Then why do all of those Canadians come down here for health care????   Because they have to wait for months.......that's why.....

Happy to hear, Dearest Ted..

What he reveals in "Sicko" is quite astounding, at least to us jaded Americans - health care systems where money is not the bottom line; counts for no line whatsoever. All that matters is healing the patient - period.

Thank you, Darling..

Confusing as hell, eh Corbin?
"mistreated....humiliated....tortured....denied basic rights.." - add maimed and slaughtered - collateral damage, I think it's called? to the list - that's what has happened, is happening to Iraqi civilians (you remember them? - those folks we liberated and gifted with our brand of democracy?) and other noncombatants caught in the crosshair of imperial agenda. Looks like the declared evildoers, real combatants are treated quite well.

Hmmmm????
But I thought they were being mistreated....humiliated....tortured....denied basic rights.......ad nauseum?   Michael.....you can't have it both ways........

Disgrace indeed, RckyMtnActivist
He is a favorite punching bag for the neoconservatives because he scratches the surface to reveal truths they wish to keep buried and silent. I admire his courage greatly and also look forward to more of his work. So much can be gleaned from this newest documentary - I plan on writing further about it. Thank you for commenting.

Hi Rae...It's a disgrace that "Terrorists" are getting better healthcare

than our hardworking taxpayers. I happen to love Michael Moore and can't wait until he does a documentary on the pharmaceutical industry alone! All he is doing is uncovering all the shit that this rotten administration is covering up! Now that we are aware of these things it is time for people to wake up, shut off their blackberries and I-phones and take action! Excellent post Rae!

I might not join al Qaeda, but I've been thinking of at least committing a crime so I can get some much needed dental and periodontal work done without having to go into serious debt that I'll never get out of.

He's simply opening doors to many truths closeted. This post is reflecting one dot on a very weird map or agenda.

Thank you for reading, Friend! I am fine; much blogging to catch up on...:) Hope you are well.
