Great post. I remember Three Dog Night.
They had some great songs. Remember “Joy to the World”, Shambala, Eli’s Coming, and the classic you mentioned: “One”. But it is like you said, they sort of just got left behind in a time warp. They used a lot of organ music and stuff that just went out of style. But it is interesting to contrast them to bands like the Stones that never seem to stop.
And by the way, I remember as a kid stretching out underneath the back windshield and laying down for the ride, starring up at the clouds or sleeping. Like you said, no seatbelts.
