Re: Growing up in Michigan, I loved the Tigers!
I wish I could have been there!  I was in the service at the time and listened to the whole series on AFN.  My own first game at Briggs Stadium was in 1959.  My Dad took my brother and me to see a double header with the Yankees.  It was Norm Cash's first year with the Tigers and both he and Kaline hit one out while they slaughtered the Yankees in the first game.  Then the Tigers won the second game in a 1-0 pitching duel.  It was one of the greatest days of my life.

I'm pleased to meet another Tiger fan.  There aren't very many in North Carolina.  I've done a little bit in the Humor Category in the past and may give it a try again now that I'm back.  Mostly I hang around here and in Journal and Everything Else, although I can't resist dabbling in almost everything.  I'll try to do some catching up on your stuff over the weekend.

Thanks for stopping by.

Growing up in Michigan, I loved the Tigers!
I remember the great team members of the '60's. Al Kaline, Jim Northrup, Rocky Colovito, Jim Bunning, Mark Fidrich (screwball, and I'm not talking about a pitch!) Charlie Maxwell and his "Sunday Punch." Those were great days. My father and I were in Briggs stadium in '68 when they won the AL pennant and the entire city shut down! Cars were left blocking all the lanes of all the streets while everyone, black and white, afluent and poor, shared the joy and elation with no feelings of anything but common pride. Nobody had anywhere else more important to be than there. There was no thought of overturning cars, smashing store windows or any of that crap that happens nowadays. We all just wandered the streets numb with ecstacy and a feeling of comraderie. The eventual ride back home to Ann Arbor was the capping off of a marvelous bonding of father and son that we both treasure. Guy AKA Northsage 45. I write in the humor column. Happy to meet you.
