I want to agree with you, but you just named so many series that I really enjoy.  I thought Third Rock From The Sun, in particular, was really well done, a sharply written and brilliantly acted satire.  And, while it's true that, as the culture has become more crude, sitcoms have followed suit, shows like Frasier are no better, using their high culture references to disguise the fact that they're just rehashing the same old sitcom plots and characters.  I think I'd rather see creatively done toilet humor than the lazy, hackneyed kind.
