I am for national care, border protection, having the time to pay attention to our needs and concerns. Build up our schools, increase our goods production, get some control over our drug problems. Charity begins at home. If they come near us we will retaliate but not before. Excellent post.

You raise some very important and interesting questions, that I certainly could not do justice to in a brief comment.

Let me just say that the idea we (or I should say you, since I am Canadian) can export 'democracy' to the rest of the world is hopelessly naive and should be abandoned, the sooner the better.

Having said that, the US must continue to act to protect her interests in the world, which include those of her important allies. Even that will be a hard enough task!
