Loving God
If you can't love your brother who you know, then how can you love God, who you don't know.

sannhet, you have hit the nail on the head
"....good works do nothing to help build the bridge to reunification with the Divine as long as other actions not based in love are present". Excellent!

I think it is that simple. For me, there is no such thing as a "victim" in these kinds of situations. Being a victim implies that what happens is outside of your control. Choosing to turn the other cheek is the ultimate in taking control of one's life. I think I'll write a post on this to clarify my position.

You have made a good point. Thanks.

sannhet - is it that simple?
You make a good point in that the tough part of being a good person is in dealing with our inherent nature to seek revenge disguised as justice but where is the line drawn? At what point does a person become a professional victim by constantly turning the other cheek? I would suggest that finding the balance between compassion and self preservation is a vital element to survival.

I don't think lawyers count as those you need to be nice to. Oops! Did I write that and not think it?

You always stir the soul my friend. Alright then, I'll get rid of theses two stuffed lawyer dolls I've been sticking pins into, and pray for them all.

Narrow thinking leads to narrow living.  You've described so many people (unfortunately).  Great post!
