Hi Mneme - well, somebody else knows us more objectively than we know
ourselves, even if we know a lot of secrets about ourselves.

Witty and amusing... I wonder who really does know us the best. Projection is a powerful thing.

Ha ha - well, understanding women is well nigh impossible, Kabu.
One thing i understand is that you don't argue with them!

Thanks, Wiley - sorry that I stressed you out.
It's really just about the inaccuracy with which we see ourselves, the difficulty of seeing ourselves without bias or distortion.

When the clown goes home at night and takes off all that paint
does he really know who he is? Are we different people as we grow in age and wisdom? I'm always trying to catch up to myself. As for you men!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're never going to know we women so don't even try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

I am just content that I have spent the years trying to live with the grace and honesty that I can stand looking at that face finally in my senior years. Truth is I had to read that sonnet over and over before I understood it, I am stressed but you are still the best (sonneter) my friend.

Hi Chris - well when we look in the mirror we only see certain views.
It's very different from the complete unrestricted view we have of everyone else. Also, i don't know about you, but when I look in the mirror, I try to see myself in the most advantageous, flattering light possible. When we look at ourselves, we try to see what we want to see, because it's us we're looking at. When we look at someone else, we see what we see with our eyes more and with our mind less. Well, sort of. It doesn't just mean that, though. But I can understand your confusion!!! A difficult thing to explain - maybe too difficult for a sonnet...

That's great Tony! I can look in a mirror and do not know me! So I guess
there IS someone else who knows me better than I do????? Chris.

Yes, you're probably right, Troosha.
To be honest, I haven't finished thinking the argument through - I started thinking about it last night in bed, and then fell asleep. I'll carry on tonight! But nevertheless, the poem takes one aspect of our self-delusion as a representative of perhaps many other examples, too many to cover in the sonnet form. That's my excuse!!

Hi - an Enigmatesque comment, my friend!

As Enigma said - Excellent, as always.  I think we do know ourselves best but we're also pretty crafty about hiding from ourselves when some of flaws rear their ugly head and we'd rather not see.  Or... as in my poem today, we understate our positives.  Glad I could remind you of a childhood memory.

Excellent poem, as usual.   I often feel like I'm on trial - now if someone would just tell what for! It's me and F. Kafka against the world!!!
