I am a fan of Mr. Powell, who showed the measure of his personal
integrity by leaving office as he did.  He is still the most popular person to have served in Bush's administration.

Saul_Relative,
Good observations on Rice. She is just the Black Lady up front! A sad person, at least Colin Powell had limits! There is hope for you still (Bush Administration will be convicted for their crimes)!

I rarely even mention Rice anymore, she's such a nonplayer. Nobody pays
her any mind anymore.  Whatever happened to Condi vs. Hillary?  What a joke.  Condoleezza Rice is doing exactly what Bush and Cheney and Rove want her to do:  travel the world being ignored by the leaders of the world.  If Bush and Cheney have something to say, they do it themselves.  She's useless and perfect in her position.  Bush/Cheney have no real foreign policy, so who better than Rice to go before some foreign head of state and say by her mere presence, "I'm just here to give the impression to the American people that the Bush administration is diplomatic, not dictatorial.  Oh, yeah, by the way, the president says he hasn't changed his mind..."

More like slink off, Glennb. Besides, Cheney will soon be dead of some
heart-related dysfunction.  Bush will be an ex-president.  History may chastise and villify, and I am sure that will be the true legacy of the Bush administration, but none of those guys will see the inside of a prison and probably will never be indicted...

Good post, Saul..such tragedy, so meaningless
Really frightening to realize how far from reality this White House is...almost as though they're living on another planet. If apathy is ever shaken off, here and worldwide, Bush/Cheney/Rice, etc. may wish to actually do so.

Saul_Relative,
Never is a very long time! There is too much carnage for never! These people will not ride off into the sunset!

I have never not agreed with you on this subject, Glennb. I just think
that there are more aspects of this than oil, although i agree it is a major one.  As for the criminality of Bush and Cheney, Constitutional limitations or no, they are not going to be tried as war criminals.  Hell, if Germany threw out the case against Rumsfeld, et.al., there's no way anyone will seriously consider the case against Bush and Cheney, et.al., no matter how much they deserve it.  Idealistically, I agree with you on this.  Pragmatically, it will never happen.

Saul_Relative,
Do I hear some form of agreement coming from you? And you "are" wrong about Bush/Cheney, others in this administration and our so called elected officials not "ever" being held accountable for their acts of treason! The Constitution does not have a Statute of Limitation provision. If the families of the dead and maimed have no will then the rest of us must.

I do not know how they plan to get Iraq's oil outside it's borders! And maybe they don't have to, the price of oil they control keeps going up and we keep paying!

They're working on the privatization of Iraq's oil fields as we speak,

Glennb.  It seems that the only thing stopping it is some philanthropic moron wants a paramutual profit system where a percentage of the profits goes to the Iraqi people (sort of like Qatar, I would imagine).  I hate to be cynical, but don't you think that this privatization would have already occurred had it not been for this holdout.  Rest assured, even if bit of philanthropy is written in, no matter what government controls Iraq in the future, none of that money is going to go to the people.  Privatization of Iraqi oil interests will simply make the leading oil companies of the world stronger and richer.

As for Congress, they're so damned busy trying to mollify everyone, be politically correct, line their own nests and be re-elected that they've become almost completely ineffectual.  I agree that Bush and several of his henchman are war criminals, but they'll never be tried.  I was hoping for a last-minute impeachment of Bush or Cheney or both, but that doesn't seem to be going to happen, either.  The people have got to reestablish themselves as the power base or the massive corruption that is Washington will continue forever...

Mr. Relative,
By the way that was the strategy and doctrine behind the invasion of Iraq (fewer troops with massive air and firepower would defeat a depleted enemy with fewer casualties). And you still think it does "not" matter that the President of the United States of America is a "war criminal" by all the definitions in the English language. Do not get me wrong, the Legislative Branch of American government is as "failed"  and incompetent! We are at middle of a serious Constitutional crisis that may never end! We cannot go back and forward is simply more of the same!

Can anyone in this government utter the phrase "windfall profit tax"? It seems the objective of the invasion of Iraq was to secure a source of "oil" for oil companies. Giving "BiG OiL" unfettered access to Iraq's oil reserves. Hell at 60 dollars why would they complain?
