Ah, not quite so mad as it seems, then!

I got the times wrong - it's before ten and after four.

No, I think they just get up early.

Thanks for filling me in on that, Mneme.
So lt's get this straight - you're only allowed to water the garden (with a hose or even with a watering can?) on Sunday and Wednesday daytimes? So does everyone rush home from work on Wednesday lunchtime to water their gardens? That sounds somewhat comical!!

the water nazis patrol suburbia to make sure you are not:
-watering the garden except sundays and wednesdays after 10am and before 4pm
-washing your car with a hose
-hosing down your driveway; no hard surfaces to be hosed including windows. you should see the kinds of contortions necessary to clean them by hand, especially upstairs.
Also
- no automatic sprinklers
- written permission to water your new turf, for one hour a week only (!)
- a written licence to fill your pool when you put one in. Takes about four days.
Now you know.

Hi Mneme - I bet it is nice in Oz most of the year.
I gather there's a bit of a water shortage over there, though. Is it possible for people to keep on hosing their lawns and flower beds all th ough the hot weather. In Britain, such things are usually banned if we do get a spell of dry weather. But then, any sort of weather at all usually brings the trains to a halt, so maybe it's just us!

True, Proc. The main good thing about the summer is the light - I hate the
darkness of winter. I don't know how people in Norway and places like that put up with the long dark winters....

Great, evocative  - but the summers are getting better there. My daughter and her cousin were both born in June and for a family birthday lunch once we remarked how nice it was to be able to sit outside... in June.  You couldn't always count on it. Conversely, it is still possible to sit outside in Oz on the first day of winter (1st of June).

Hi Chris - and it's OK today but look out for more rain tomorrow!
We're spending a few days in Wales in early July - crossed fingers for a rain-free period then, but the rest of the ime I don't mind it - it's needed! We all go on holiday abroad these days anyway. Apart from me, that is!

Hi Kabu - I know what you mean, though. I think this year's summer
was in February...

It sounds lovely, especially sitting where I am in the middle of a wet ,cold
New Zealand weather.  Today as I stood on the sidelines of a soccer game one of our English mums made the comment that her son was used to playing in this wet weather although its later in the year.  Tony, enjoy your summer.  The cold days come too soon.

Sorry to hear about that, Joe
Do mosquitoes only bother certain people and leave others alone. I'm quite lucky, I never get insect bites, but others - often girls - seem to get them all the time!

Hi Tony-you are so right about our weather! It simply could NOT have been
Sunny-for the B/H week end-could it! And yes-no one knows WHAT to wear-Ha but-beautifull now! Chris.

Tony I once missed an English summer. I had a late night, slept in
and the sun had gone. Of course you've heard that one before from every Aussie who ever visited the old dart.&

As a warm weather fanatic, I can handle the humidity and the sweat - but those damned mosquitos are bloody maddening!

I feel sorry for you Bhaskar - I was reading about the cooler hill stations
in Greenfields' blog the other day. That's what we Brits did when we were there (behaving in our usual superior way) - went up into the cooler hills.

Good to hear some "summer" weather has arrived.  Long awaiting I think as has been the case.  It's a glorious sunny day here.  Hope it hangs in for your weekend and you can have some summer fun - sweat and all.
