I meant to ask you but forgot, you said you had a good book on Shakespeare's sonnets that discussed them one by one - mind if I ask which one? I have a Penguin, I think (must check).

Tony
I've been writing a piece about music today, how ironic to read this now. Unfortunately, I just broke the lid of my CD player and am having to use the good old Oxford to keep it shut. Sigh. This is a lovely and lively piece. You ought to one day visit New Orleans!

Thanks very much, Bhaskar, that's great of you to say so.
You are right, there is something highly sexual about the tongues of flame licking, yet of course destructive and torturous (if torturous is a word, I'm not sure). I don't mean tortuous, that's something else, although perhaps etymologically linked! This comment, for instance, by myself, is tortuous!

Hi Drohan, good morning to you! That's great to hear.
(As is music, as you quite rightly say.) The phrase 'sweetened air' is my current way of describing the appeal of music.

This is simply exquisite Tony
...and so picturesque, like in the way an unknotted baloon flies, so does the mind taking one to journeys uncharted making one forget oneself. Also the tongues of flame licking... is anther great expression. It is simply 'licking' for the flame, but so very excruciatingly torturous for one being licked. Great job, this one Tony.

Hee hee - they are indeed, in terms of the basic structure, yes.
I always stick to ten syllables per line and have been using the exact same rhyming scheme in them all for nearly five months now. It helps to keep it more interesting, i think, paradoxically, to work within such tight limitations, but above all, i just like the form. It gives you enough time to say just about anything, but prevents too much waffle. Waffle is something I'm prone to, you see...

That's where I'm comin' back from my friend, the mind had rushed off into another calmer place with nobody in it for a bit, and now it's uplifting to read a Tonysonnet again.
