Well done.  Several issues in here.  I met a man last week that was one of the 'boat people'.  He told me about his days in a concentration camp while he did my nails.  I felt very odd.

Nobody likes war, but in the real world sometimes it is necessary to fight. During the Vietnam conflict, it is my understanding that there were other ways conscientious objectors could serve, and many did. Don't thank this Canadian, lol, I would have sent the dd's back...

I do agree on those who went awol

If you don't like war, don't enlist.

Draft dodgers, on the other hand were being forced to partake in war by a system loaded to make young minorities and poor folk do the job for the chicken hawks in power.

I sat still and ran the risk of the lottery and won.  I still abhore war, and I still thank Canada for harboring those of my friends who lost out in the lottery.

Re: Re: Good analogy, Nautikos...but I do not like squirrels, they have
you are right, Naut, and I promise to give my negative attitude toward the squirrels a rest...I just had a bad experience with them! Now...chipmunks are every bit as greedy, and as you said they are even cuter, but at least in my experience the chippies are not destructive.

I have no sympathy for draft dodgers, who let others do the dirty work.  In any case, they should stay in the country and face the music. But that's water under the bridge anyway! I have even less sympathy for guys going AWOL! Nobody forced them to join the army!

My dear Muser, I guess we have to agree to disagree on the question of squirrels, lol. They do tend to be greedy, although less so than chipmunks, who are even cuter, lol. But we're making sure the birds get their share...

I agree in theory, but not in entierty

Or some damn word like that.

As a fervent anti-war wingnut, I have always been very thankful that our neighbor to the north was willing to harbour those that simply do not wish to be part of a killing machine.  The rest of it makes complete sense to me.

Good analogy, Nautikos...but I do not like squirrels, they have
lost their cuteness for me!  Please forgive my unsolicited opinion here, but I think they have pulled their fluffy tails over your eyes if you think that you're feeding them because you think they're cute...you're feeding them in an effort to appease them...hoping that they will  stop eating all the birdseed you've put out for the birds. Well in the cold, hard world of squirrel behavior...forget it! There is no honor among theives; a squirrel would steal birdseed from its grandmother!   The rest of your post is excellent, as usual!
