Naut, there's nothing better for the heart than an ounce of
honey gold single malt Irish whiskey....

Enigmatic
In people who are genetically predisposed, the uric acid in the fortified wines (and others as well, to a lesser degree) may crystallize out and settle in the joints, causing inflammation. I guess the only way to find out whether you belong to that category is to start drinking lots of port...

Re: How about scotch with a red wine chaser? Hmmm. I like the sound of

saul, when drinking, I prefer to remain within the 'family' of whatever I started with. (Obviously, I make an exception when I have amartini before dinner.) Thus, then when I have wine, I usually end up with brandy after dinner. Scotch I like by itself. If I start with scotch(preferably single malt), I end with scotch, lol.

But aside from Zinfandel, you owe it to yourself to try some nice Pinot Noir, Merlot or Shiraz...

Speaking of red wine, does Port wine really give one gout, or were you just trying to give this American stress?!

How about scotch with a red wine chaser? Hmmm. I like the sound of
that.  Good post, Nautikos.  I'm more of a Zinfandel man, myself, but if it'll make me live longer, give me a Rose.

Re: Red wine is all fine and dandy for those who can drink it..
Sorry to hear that, Pat. How about a little scotch, then?

Red wine is all fine and dandy for those who can drink it..
but I developed a food allergy - drink allergy - I believe it was a side effect to meds I was taking for depression - that causes dizzy headaches and blinding eye flashes, so I can't drink margueritas or red wine - and certain tropical versions of V8 fruit juice...  But lucky for me cranberries are still an option...

I knew it all along.. glad to be confirmed with science. .. they need a wine glass icon

TAPS
Rather than treating the number of cranberries as a variable, we might use glasses of red wine instead, for ease of calculation. Another important variable would be your weight...

A wave of nostalgia big enough to swamp the "Queen Mary", LOL...Do they still even make these bottles? I can't even remember the last time I saw one of those! I guess I'll have to do a little research, and shall report back...

Re: smartdog
call me old-fashioned...but I still put candles in chianti bottles. Passe'? Probably, but I don't care; I still think it's romantic. ..an old folding table covered with a tableCLOTH, candle-filled Chianti bottles under large hurricane glasses, bottles of red, dinner under the stars with friends....sure, the expensive lanterns in the pottery barn catalog photos look great...but they can never replace the charm of those candle filled chianti bottles!

Re: Naut
Of course Chianti is red wine...I think marco Polo invented it to go with the spaghettii...

Of course! It's wine, and it's red! And it came in bottles that people used to make lamps out of, or maybe it still does, and they still do, dunno...

Does Chianti count as red wine?  I hope so; it's the only kind of wine I can stand.

Thanks
