J,
This is highly interesting. Thank you for sharing this. I too was a single parent up against a man who refused to participate in any way. It was a difficult task and I only had one child. We started out on our own at $7/hour full time so I worked another part-time job. I was blessed to have my sister across the street to babysit but it tore my heart out to leave him three nights a week. It was twelve years at full time and part time to make ends meet and we did not live lavishly. That is what it took to survive. Even now with my son on his own I'm having trouble of letting go of less than 60 hr work weeks, although I have been helping him also on his own. I just let go of that responsibility about a month ago.
I don't think what you were doing in receiving the right pay for the right earned was wrong even under the table. I know it can feel as if it is wrong because I have been bartering for rent for almost ten years now. It doesn't feel honest but I have honestly worked to earn it. I can see why you may have been feeling uneasy though. I guess I need to read on. Your life has been interesting to say the least. Thank you for sharing yourself and your story with us. By the way....woohoo, you're a foxy lady with some excellent taste in design!

Catching up, dear Justi...incredible writing and story as always
You caught a break you very much deserved, but it must be hidden..sigh...the injustices suffered by our gender never fail to stir my blood.

Looking forward to more, sweet friend.

Yes this whole blog is true. It is the story of how long it took me to get into fashion design and how hard it was once inside. But we get through it. Thank you for reading.

Wow..........this is a suberb piece of writing! Is it a true story? If so, I had no idea. What silliness with regard to the 'worth' of a female employee. Gosh, that's awful. And I'm sorry, but I feel, cowardly, too. Who's running his buisness? Oh my. Well done, dear lady.
