Jaded, gomedome? Nay, my friend. Realistic. I have come to find that
almost any endeavor worthy of a church's involvement has to do with money, regardless of denomination or religion.  That's why I say go ahead and tax them.  They're going to go ahead a play politics, so what's the problem?

saul_relative - over my long and arduous experiences with the catholic

church, I have trained my mind to follow nothing but the money.

They are accomplished liars but if examinied absolutely everything that they say or do, promote or proliferate has some form of monetary justification. I mention the catholic church because even though you reference a protestant segment of Christianity associated with the US republican party, you did mention a cardinal of an archdiocese ". . . openly preaching for amnesty for illegal aliens." . . . my jaded perspective: This outfit is sitting on a trillion dollars of net worth but is faced with a crumbling infrastructure and declining subscription, especially in the industrialized nations. Mexico is predominantly catholic, of second world status and the citizens that escape its borders quite often become very heavily involved in churches in the USA. . . A campaign to find the desperately needed tithing butts to fill the pews is disguised as a human rights cause in this case.
