15 mos and 2 and 5 years old when their father left, so I have lot's of experience with parenting post-divorce or end-of-relationship. If your daughter is going to go for three weeks, the father should start having some visitation before the trip---first an evening or two then an overnight. If is ever goes to court, it is most likely he would get up to half the summer, so trying to work together to help your daughter accommodate to him to prepare for time with him is probably wise. There are no easy solutions....
