Tony,

I have only two things to say 1) ear plugs (well that's two) and 2) aircleaner .....now hear me out.  I had a central nervous system disorder FMS for 15 years and was only able to sleep up to one hour intervals at a time.  It was exhausting to say the least.  I was never disabled and held down a full time job but I was dangerous!  I was bitter and angry and mean and crazy mad all the time.  Not being able to sleep will drive one mad!  So drugs, sleep aides, nsaids, whatever wouldn't touch this monster, so for over a decade I tried every trick in the book because the slightest miniscule sound would set me off and not just keep me awake, the noise actually provoked pain in my central nervous system.

There are designer ear plugs made from cashmere even so they filter out every sound and you don't even know they're in.  Also, any variation is sound is what disturbs sleep, changes in pitches and tones or even rhythms, so I searched world wide for an electronic air cleaner....they kept trying to sell me those buggers that don't make a sound and couldn't figure out why I wanted to hear them make a quiet, steady, consistant air sound.  I found it, Honeywell, cost me $49 and I wore it out and bought another.

You're a funny man with a sick sense of humor, but I like it!

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose / By any other name would smell as sweet."
(Romeo and Juliet, 2.1.85-6)

Including yours. Just going back to one of the comments below and your nickname - maybe it could have been tonysonnet. Author and genre in one. - they're still a good read, and we'd always find you.

Well then I do thank you for making me decide I won't be renting any apartment, think I'll just stay where I am. Have a good weekend my friend.

No, Neil - thank goodness it's the place I'm moving from very soon!
I'd be dreading the summer months - it was far noisier last summer than any other time of year. People stay up longer, (the main problem is the man who lives below me ... in fact, he's below most of humanity), have more visitors round, go in and out banging and slamming doors more often, especially at night, play more music, and generally make more noise at night in the summer. At least i found that no matter how tired I was, I could still write. Good news for us insomniacs! I think if I did stay here, this summer, i'd have to accept that it was likely to be noisy till late, and try and put it to good use, by writing till about 2 or 3am, and going to work a lot later.

Yes, Mneme - There was no hammering this morning, I noticed...
Just yesterday when I needed quiet. The man is the spawn of the devil, make no mistake!

Hi Coolacen. I'm trying to work out which of your letters doesn't work...
Is it the Z? Most people just call me Tony anyway so it's perfectly fine! I don't like my pen-name. I think i might ask for suggestions in my next sonnet...

Thanks Drohan. Insomnia is certainly related to thinking a lot!

Mneme is correct and I followed he as she followed your sleepless & success
with writing. That's a great lesson: if the neighbors, wives, loves get noisy....start writing and get ahead of your projects. shalomfromneil. BTW tony, is this the new place you moved to? Stay put......LOL

Okay that's it!  I put my foot down!  Miss Mary is hopping on a jet tomorrow and coming to (Entwistle Reservor I remembered!) Manchester to bob that bozo over the head with hundreds of acorns, pots of ink and an epitet of words he'll never forget.  How DARE he treat our beloved Sonnet writer so!  That's it, I tell you!  Don't upset Miss Mary, you'll regret it!  Now, my dear, Tony..... I hope you're in bed sleeping sweetly and dreaming of chocolate!  Sleep well, dear.

Yes, ST, or even better, a bloody water cannon.
The main offender is so fat even that probably wouldn't be enough to dislodge him from his beloved kitchen.

I hope you have. . . .
caught up on sleep. May I suggest a water pistol for your overzealous neighbors? You could hire a local kid to sneak up on them.

Yes, we could Kat - I'm a few hours ahead of you but I was awake
the whole time! Let's not do it tonite, though, eh? Not at that time, anyway!

Great Poem, I hate when I can't sleep and when I do the same thing the neighbor mows his lawn the trash runs so early with that loud ass truck , But most of all my daughters start dropping kids off on their way to work, I was up at 4.30 we could have chatted

Fantastic poem
I am sorry you struggle with sleep Tony.  I woke up at five AM today after only a few hours sleep myself as my sleep is very erratic also.  I can total;ly relate to loud noises and mental strife an dth ecraziness those harsh abrasive noise makers create in a sensitive mind.  Motorcycles and loud trucks drive by my apartment and freak me out often.  I cannot stand their angry growls.  Anyhow, Kudos on the poem and the woman, my love, who I wrote my poem about had a similar experience this morning as lawnmowers woke her up and she wanted to sleep in and she began to cry as she felt the crazies and the abrasiveness and she felt her day was ruined by a terrible rude morning.

Tony, cease your mental strife and just chill. Sometimes I miss my
favourite writers too.  When life gets in the way.  And sometimes,I read back or I dont.  We are all 'growed' up enough to know theres a good reason when our friends dont catch up with us.  Im usually just happy to see you guys back after you ve been away.  Lovely ,lovely poem . All you needed was  a teen rockstar wannabe playing his drums next door....Have your wine and sleep under your bed. It may help.
