I just found that out too Terpgirl
Apparently they thought the song was too long. They should have left it alone. I never could figure out whether Daniel was dead or just blind--now I know.

It's bizarre to me how some of these songs have profound meanings that we may not know, but we all get together and little by little a legend is born. Sometimes what we create is better than what the writer started with. I use my maiden name. When my daughter was in preschool, the teachers developed this long history to go with me that included me being a young widow, etc. My real life was so dull by comparison.

blinded in Vietnam. Or so I heard.

We used to have an English teacher in college who gave such different
interpretations of poetry that we wondered whether the poet even may have had as fertile an imagination.
