I love couscous
and have eaten it in North Africa and Europe.  I used to cook it a lot when I oived in the US and Italy and a few times when I moved back to India.  You have inspired me to get back to it.  And, let's have it sitting on the floor, with our fingers! Cheers.

I have enjoyed couscous before, but never squatting on the floor.  I'll have to try that if I can get anyone to squat with me.  We are spoiled to the table and chairs.

It sounds delicious lindo. The communal bowl reminds me of
something my parents did when they were young.  We have a bowl made up of a maize meal mixture  and sour milk or maas as it is called in south africa.   Mixed together it is a refreshing dish eaten cold.  It would be served in a communal bowl and everyone would squat around.  As the food got less and less my young uncle would suddenly shout out and point in a certain direction.  As the other siblings looked he would disappear with the food and finish it by himself.

london is the most natural place to try exotic food, it has people from all races and nationalities. However, i'm pretty certain you either tried the tunisian or moroccan couscous. There are no Libyan restaurants outside Libya to the best of my knowledge.

If you are in Sub-Saharan Africa, a trip to libya is not difficult to arrange. it is definitely wroth the trouble, especially for the food.

that's the globalization of food for you, we eat stuff that we don't know the origin of. I think it is a good thing, and couscous has universal appeal because it is tasty, healthy and easy to prepare. It's a shame my husband does not stand the look of it.

as for squating and making good of the spoils, well, it's not that difficult, take a plane to libya and you are welcome to eat as much couscous as you like.

P.S: i thought this particular post was lamely written, i was half asleep and i felt that i HAD TO post something. i'm glad you enjoyed it.

I only tasted couscous once in London, of all places,
but to where I'm going to live, in sub-Saharanian Africa, they don't make it I'm afraid.
