Wow HolyGrail, glad you found your way through..I've heard really bad
things about Wellbutrin. And Zoloft...my daughter was put on that one for postpartum depression. She went from moody and teary to being a zombie. I had to bring her and the baby to my house and care for both of them until I convinced her doctor to take her off of it. He kept increasing the dosage and she got to the point where she couldn't talk for herself. I got mad at the next visit; nuff said..lol. Except that he apologized for "not being aware of the full range of side effects" and asked me what I thought the course of treatment should be...Prozac or Paxil? Geez!!

Keep on, drug free! And thank you for sharing.

That is such a tough subject since antidepressants have actually been the savior of so many. But I've been on Zoloft, Paxil and Lexapro and didn't like any of them much. I guess they helped the depression for awhile, but I grew more depressed because of the weight they caused me to gain. Withdrawing from Paxil was HORRIBLE. I tried Wellbutrin (not an SSRI), but that increased the anxiety I was already suffering, and left me feeling dangerously suicidal one day. That was a day I will never forget, and luckily I lived through it. I called the dr the next day and asked if I could go off of them cold-turkey, and I have been using herbal remedies and looking within myself for answers ever since. Can't say that it always works, but I'm still around, knock on wood!

I have to say that I also found prozac to be good for me when
I struggled with depression. but doctors in new zealand will not prescribe antidepressants to children under the age of 18 because of the side effects on a growing brain. I discovered this the hard way when my then 11 year old struggled with severe anxiety and panic attacks. What a traumatic period in my life. I did most of what you did,had some counselling and got natural herbal remedies. Hes much better now but he still sometimes have off days. We just take one day at a time.

Thank you for sharing, Linter...not everybody has serious side effects
and many do benefit. A few years before my son's problems, I had depression and anxiety symptoms that I couldn't seem to shake. I finally gave in to my doctor and tried Prozac for 7 or 8 months. It had a numbing effect on my moods and some side effects but nothing dangerous. I did rebound from the lowest of my lows; not sure I'd call my experience a success though.
These drugs are being dispensed in a high volume, greedy method and when there is carelessness with chemistry and the human condition, explosions occur and innocent bystanders suffer grave consequences.
I believe there needs to be greater transparency/ honesty from the pharm.s about the side effects and much more vigilance in the medical profession when a person is on these drugs. And children/teen-agers should be prescribed them only when all other types of treatment and approaches have failed. (diet changes, stronger stability in environment, if needed, exercise, group mental health sessions, one on one therapy with trained professionals, educational adjustments.) The statistics on kids killing and other horrific crimes involving the usage of SSRI's demand action, imo.
I haven't heard of the one you took; must not be available here. I'm glad you had a healing experience. Thanks again.

Well, I can only say that when I had a serious depression a few
years ago, I was given Seroxat (maybe not existing in the US) and it helped me a lot.
