- Go to Do Guns Still Kill People or Do People Kill People?
I've got a better slogan for you guys -- "Guns Don't Kill People,
Corporations Do." Wrap your head around that idea. Anyway, growler, your point is valid, but it will never fly in the good ole USA. Too many idiots with NRA affiliation. The gun lobby is too strong in Washington. And there are millions of Americans who already own guns of one type of another. All are deadly. So, what to do? Make the commission of crimes with a firearm more costly. From domestic violence to robbing a bank to shooting at a law enforcement officer, increase the penalty for using a firearm in the commission of ANY crime. Also, make it extremely difficult for someone to buy a gun legally. There should be a mandatory waiting period (and I don't mean the time one has to wait until the dealer hands you the weapon from the wall, either) to insure a thorough background check. Still, you'll not keep firearms out of the hands of idiots and lunatics. There will always be private sales, illegal sales, theft, and gun shows.
Oh, and Corbin, .22 calibres are the choice of assassins. Why? The slug generally doesn't have enough momentum to exit the skull once it has been slowed by the impact of entrance, which causes the slightly more flattened slug to ricochet inside the skull, thereby doing considerable damage. I bet our Virginia Tech boy knew that. And all weapons are "military type".

For a bloke
named Growler you're a gentle soul. But I agree with you. And I think the human right not to be shot is far more important than the supposed constitutional right to carry firearms - in any country.

Try that in a Detroit school or college and he will get shot himself...It's
amazing that no professor or student could come up with a gun.

To me, it's all military type. Any gun is a bad gun. Whenever Americans have wanted something done, when we get together we can do it. The problem is that we give up too easily on things like gun legislation. Let me ask you this. If guns are illegal in our nations capitol, than why are so many of them prevalent? Damnit, it's time to start caring.

Exactly.
Actually, there was a bumper sticker back in the late 80s that read "Guns don't kill people; postal workers do."
Seriously, though, I thin regulation of guns would probably be a good thing, except for the idea is probably about 50 years too late. The only people now who obey gun laws are law abiding citizens.
