Great explanation! I feel that using the familiar words to write is far more effective writing to reach a larger audience and have them grasp the correct meaning. I am Canadian and find the difference in spelling words, eg.colour and color, aggravating. A habit of correcting the errors as you read is one I have developed in defense to protect my own diction and grammar. It seems what we hear and what we write are not always correlated.hear here!LOL.
