I still don't know what I did, but He has definitely punished me! My furnace broke down today and needs to be replaced tomorrow! I hope He's happy now, 'cause I am not...

I wasn't being entirely serious. Sometimes my facetious streak just gets the better of me...

as long as you realize that my 'recipe' is not prescriptive, but merely descriptive...

And no, we're not going to like it. Indeed, I hope I am wrong, but my better understanding, which is also based on some wider knowledge, tells me I am right. On the other hand, human history also has a funny way of sometimes showing sudden and unexpected turns, so let's hope for that...

I hate to disagree with you since you were not talking to me, but.....
Memorizing scriptures affords the easy opportunity at anytime to meditate on the words/promises/commands that God gives providing strength, comfort and a sound mind.   Trivia is fun, but it definitely is not the important reason.

About this memorizing thing...
my mom used to say the devil can quote scripture. And i believe so can many of his followers.

hey, why me? What have I done to Him?

proc,
the difference is that Christian sanctimonious self-righteousness has actually never harmed anyone, at least not for the last few hundred years (and I am bracketing the Irish business here). Whereas the Islamist version thereof has shown itself to be rather inimical to many people's health...

well, you have definitely touched on one of the main problems.I wish I had a crystal ball, but even without that, I'm afraid my pessimism is justified...

Actually I think global warming is going to solve all of the worlds religious ills, God told me, He's gonna slam Islam and everybody else along with it.

This is a powerful post.Iam a practicing chritian and your description of
the muslim faith can be easily describing the christian faith l.But as you have said what feels weird to some people is normal to others. While there are aspects of being a muslim I find peculiar I respect those who practice their religion faithfully and dont harm others. And having said that there are fanatic christians who are just as offputting in their sanctimonious self-righteousness.

Excellent post. As we discussed, before, without the presence of a hardcore belief in a deity, save for the occasional references to some Nordic gods, or the desire to one day make it to Valhalla - no Jews allowed, of course, the Nazis burned themselves out in 12 (death-spreading) years. But when you put the sincere belief in a deity, along with the radicalism/fanaticism... well let's just say I don't think Islam is going to burn itself out anytime soon!
