Oh! to have a mind like yours......
Bhaskar, you are very kind, but the heart gets us in trouble, while the head gets us out of it. Life needs both the likes of you AND me, and neither view is seperable from the other, nor is one better than the other. I used to think that i was very rational, motherhood has turned me hyper-emotional, maybe it is not just about different types of people but also about different phases in life.

lindo-
While your's is hearty, mine is heady. . The heart is closer to the soul. Instinct is nearer Spirit than reason. Faith is a faculty higher than reason. But yes, you nicely say that the head and heart should be in their respective places. the heart should ask and the head should reply. The head should, of necissity, be in the service of the heart.

Reflection
we can't seem to have enough tolerance to bring peace to this world, there is more ignorance and bigotry than we can heal.

All humans deserve to be treated respectfully Mandalee
I have known the people i mentioned in my post for 25 years, their faith is none of my business, they have earned my respect with their generosity, kindness and most importantly by their willingness to accept my beliefs without judgement. thank you for stopping by

There is nothing remarkable about sharing joy Troosha
I think it is the most natural thing, we have locked ourselves up in our respective cultures and creeds, each thinking that he is better than the other. I feel great happiness when i see my friends enjoying their faith, why shouldn't I?

Thank you Bhaskar
As always I talk from the heart and you talk from the head. It works very well, don't you think?

thank you afzal
Islam has become synonymous with intolerance and this is very untrue. i think that we really should make an effort to put our faiths aside and celebrate the fact that we are all equal in God's eyes.

What a wonderful tradition and I think it's remarkable that you chose to participate even though it is not your belief.   It's a huge gesture of respect.

its not just the essence of tolerance but the essence of love
and respect that the world needs so badly. If all mankind respected and cared about each others belief and each other it would be a really beautiful world and we would learn so much from each other. After all thats what makes the world interesting, our differences. At the end of the day we are all created by the same God.This such an interesting piece of writing Ive never heard of any of these practices before.

You have answered the question, "why do I take interest in their beliefs and customs when they often contradict with mine", very beautifully. It is only the dogmatic that says, 'it's either my way, or no way'. This has inspired me to give a post today, and I will also answer your query you posed in my blog as to how we are of the Earth

I agree with your final conclusion in respect of tolerence that you said.
Good post.
