Bhaskar

sorry did not get the "copy pasting Shehrezade" bit...

I do agree that Shehrazde is a beautiful name, it rings apersonal bell for me: the master story teller, a brave woman who is not afraid to walk into the lion's den, but when i read the original unsencored version of the Arabian Nights, i was shocked to see how degrading the real story is to Shehrezade. I have toyed with the idea of re-writing the Nights for several years, never had the courage to put pen to paper (or finger to keyboard for that matter).

Impressive Straightforward
And how, may I ask, did you find out about this dark secret of weaning?

Joanna
I think you are lucky not having to deal with the trauma of weaning, but i do understand your sense of disapointment when your baby lost interst, almost makes a mother feel useless, but if she's happy, then it's fine.

Sherezade, a lovely name that.
I can understand a lot about the Syrian mentality for the male child, because it is more or less so here in India. I enjoyed your writing that the family holdall that he was earlier, turned out to be too hot for them to handle. What peace it must have brought you as a mum.

You are a wonderful mom
your son is so lucky to have you nuture and care for him so. my daughter just naturally became disinterested at 9 months or I would have done it for as long as possible as well.

Lindo,I can so identify with your feelings about who Adam belonged to.
When my eldest daughter was born she was so beautiful and all my husbands' family wasted no time telling me she had nothing from me,that I was just the incubator etc etc.Because she was pretty it all came from the dad. When your hormones are in a turmoil you dont want to hear that. And they were so possesive and interfered so much I felt as though she didnt belong to me.They even wanted to take her and keep her during the week because I worked.Fortunately ,my husband said no.As for breastfeeding for a long time, the range is so wide about what is considered normal, its a pity people interfere. If you, your husband and baby had no problem with it ,that should have been good enough.
