FORSYTHIA GLORY
Somewhere on my path today, I spied them
A grand fire, not yet flaming hot, not red...
William Forsyth's name but native Asian
You grace all lands, when spring's around the bend
An immigrant, olive-relative, here
Your welcome is genuine, yellow Asian
One of China's fifty fine herbs to cure
Maladies, restore to vigor and vim
All who trust in the secrets of plant power
Here, I discover first your March flowers
Before leaves, even the tiniest, appear
I learn of your music in Korea, bows
For Ajaeng, Forsythia Ovata,
Beauty and brokenness: yellow fire.

I remember fondly Cherry Blossom time in DC
not only at the Tidal Basin, but also on Capitol Hill in the park just north of my first apartment there on 6th Street NE.
Poem and Pics brought back those memories.

When I went to Paris in '03 I saw beautiful trees in pink bloom around Notre Dame, but none as beautiful as shown in your photograph. That is just breathtaking.

Great pic, Neil - I also love trees in blossom.
They really do warm the heart, coming so soon after winter's dreariness.

I love cherry trees. My city streets are lined with them - all in full bloom - and it is a sight to behold.

Wow, you've been busy! I really loved the way you used the, 'I' in this piece as of course it makes it so much more personal. And it conjured so many images and snippets of history. Well done! Oh and I just LOVED those cherry trees in bloom. Thank you! --Joy!Mary

Devil's Complaint.Bonus for yr visit (Loved the pic & it took most space!)
The Devil’s Complaint
When you are the bad guy, you get a black hat
But what do I get: a trident, two horns, and tail!
I am supposed to be all-powerful, red and black
Confession: I am white, you know. A fallen angel!
And yes, I did earn my wings, and still
I was reprimanded, not rewarded like the rest
Because it is said I have too much ambition;
Now, wouldn’t that make me almost American?
As for being all-powerful, that’s a laugh -
Nay more, it sends me into hysterics…
Like the lion describing the giraffe
I may have a long reach, some jolly antics
But if I am more powerful than Anyone,
Especially the One that condemned me;
Then many of you may have it all wrong -
Asking for help from my weaker adversary!
People use and abuse my name, mix it with “Saddamn”
People cheat my adversary: succeed with greed
and every other deception neither foresaw or planned -
Like Income Tax evasion, credit card and bank fraud!
…In the beginning, it was a basic existence;
No computers, no Wall Street, no Chinese Veto …
All I did was clamor for wings. That’s persistence
you advocate; Or don’t you wish to fly to Mars and Pluto?
