The truth is we CAN'T win in Iraq, no matter what.  That is as obvious as it gets.  And the main reason for this is because we went in and fought a war for independence for a group of people that just were not ready to have independence.  Until the people themselves are willing to fight for it and work towards keeping it alive, there is absolutely nothing at all that we can do for them.

Waiting more money and troops in Iraq will do nothing at all to end this. We've done all we really can.  it has to end up being up to the Iraqis to finish it.  if another dictator gets power there, it is because the people of Iraq let it. If Bush would have listened to his military advisors in the first place and taken his time, doing this right to begin with, it all would have gone over better.  Rushing in to the war was the first and greatest mistake made in all of this.  Pulling out now and telling the People of Iraq that they need to step up and take control is the way to do what we are trying to do.  Otherwise we will be baby-sitting them for a long time, because in truth there is no way we can stop what is going on by sending more troops over there.  The Iraqis have to be willing to work towards the change and that means they need to change their attitudes about what it going on.  Us having a strong military presence over there is only hurting things and making it harder for the people of Iraq to move on.

I'd respect the Democrats
if they'd vote to de-fund the war, although I'd strongly disagree with them. But they're not likely to do that because they don't want to be blamed for Iraq becoming another VietNam. All the liberals who are against the war have been trying to compare Iraq to VietNam... they don't know how right they are. We lost VietNam BECAUSE we didn't have the conviction to do the right thing and finish what we started. And the only reason we had to go after Saddam Hussein after 9/11 is because we didn't finish the job during the Gulf War (early 1990's) when we had the chance. The oppressed civilizations like Iraq have difficulty trusting us to liberate them because we have a track record of letting our political opposition perform liberatus-interruptus and those whom we set out to liberate are once again the bloody bones beneath the boots of another dictator. Mark my words: if the Democrats are successful in forcing a retreat from Iraq, we'll be right back there fighting the next Islamic Extremist Dictator 20 years from now and we'll be back to square one. I say we finish the job now while we've got a foothold there so that those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for this mission will not have done so in vain.
