I think Medger Evers had a lot to do with it too. He is one of my heros. Now the town I live in has no color...no flavor...all lily white, boring. They do not accept federal funds. I can remember the day when city council kicked the feds out and told them not to come back. To quote one member "We don't want your darn money and we will govern our own schools." To this day it remains so. However growing up in different places in the world I am appalled by this attitude. Ignorance is not bliss. My g/children will have to face the real world of color. All I can do is help them.
