I was single 12+ years between marriages. I have been blissfully married for 23 years now. Things are different now than 23 years ago, but I believe what happened was people were looking for a sexual parter not a marriage partner. You mentioned animals. They mate some for life and some for a time. It is about reproduction to them. With people it appears to often to be about the reproductive act not the conclusion. Marriage is a whole range of covenants there is a person for you if you are careful in your choosing.
