The "scene precision of Hemmingway" is a good way to describe his writing. It was his "The Sun Also Rises" that drew me to Pamplona. I stood in the old plaza in the rain looking up at the balcony of his place and I could "see" him there waving his red cloth at the runners below amongst the bulls. All of the sounds and excitemnt, the screams, the pounding of the hooves on cobblestone, were playing in my head even though in reality all was silent except for the patter of raindrops on my umbrella.
