Thanks, Mike! I think it benefitted from being written in the office
when i had more time to ponder it than I do at home! Yes, I am lucky in not having a very demanding job!

Hi Discom - not really - I just imagine and leave it at that!
It's cigarette and booze temptation that's stronger in reality!

Hi Enigmatic - yes, I do, especially Fawlty towers.
And Monty Python's Holy Grail and Meaning of Life are great, too. But on the whole, British comedy is quite weak, because it tends to be written by one writer, while the Americans do it as a team.

Nice sonnet - telling me my poem was Poe-like was the ultimate compliment you could give me! Forgive me if I'm sterotyping, but do you enjoy "Monty Python" and/or "Fawlty Towers" cause I think they're 2 of the funniest shows ever made - from any country!

No Tony
I was in delirium last night with high fever and coughing throughout. And I'm famished for not eating the last two days. That's how I'm at the compu so early in tne morning, and saw some eateries at your blog.

with mental nourishment and saved a few real calories being piled on!

Hi Tony
The changing patterns of the clouds, the afternoon dessert, culminating evening -  the last three lines "Of black treacle stirred by bats into paste,/While milk-white owls shake their wings, sprinkling on/The sugar crystal stars reflected in the dew", all give a sensuous colouring to the poem

Hi Chris - yes, they are - I've seen them from both sides now...
But mostly from underneath...!

Hi Talion - yes, I'm attracted by poetry with rules.
The reader understands what's going on better, the discipline is good for the writer to keep them within reasonable boundaries. It's like music - that sounds loose and undisciplined without regular beats, too. You don't get rap that doesn't adhere to the beat. Nuff said.

Good evvening Wiley - it's all in the mind, though - no harm in that.
I actually eat puddings and desserts quite rarely - just when i go to restaurants. I'm not fat, but I would be if I ate like this every day!

Hi Fionajean - yes, all dessert - great stuff isn't it?
Who needs the earlier boring courses?

posted by Antonionioni on March 9, 2007 at 2:31 PM | link to this | reply

Ha ha - well yes, OTA, I have to admit that I do if things are slow there
which is often. I haven't dome much the last two days. If you're stuck at home not doing much you also spend a lot of time thinking of food, i find.

I must admit I'm not a poetry kind of guy (if you saw the reams of awful stuff I wrote while in college you'd see why), but on the rare occasions when I venture into these unknown waters, I prefer the "classic" rhymed and metered styles. There's nothing wrong with free-verse, but on the surface it's too easy. Often it's little more than bad prose instead of poetry. The rules involved with writing sonnets make it truly a skill. I admire that. I don't know what kept me from visiting sooner. I'll rectify this error in the future.
