Hi Kidny
Great story. I love a start up story that ends in success. I hope that there was proper estate planning as I gues the business was left to his children. Perhspas the shares of stock in the winerywere left in a grantor retained annuity trus (GRAT) to get the company out of the estate with little or no gift tax issues (see Sam Walton and Walmart strategies).
I just love business and its many facets. It gets started, there are the operations, and there is strategic planning. Strategic planning ranges from finding new markets (Thunderbird to upscale wines) to planning for the succession of the business for the future. There is always lots to think about.
