Saul...
It doesn't have to be in the bill.  All it will take is one homosexual claiming that someone who is speaking out against him to be a hate crime and getting it into court with a liberal judge for it to take away the person's right to freedom of speech.

It's already started with the officer who spoke out against homosexuality this week.  Homosexual activists are demanding that he be punished for exercising his right to free speech and religion.  If this bill passes, it will open the floodgates for others to do the same.

I agree...
But did you happen to catch the latest episode of "South Park"? If you did not, it airs again 12 midnight eastern time this Sunday - i.e. I think it is sometimes totally appropriate to use "offensive" words especially when being ironic - if you watch the episode, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about!

In fairness to your position, whimsystoryteller, there is nothing in HR 254
that denies Christians the right to speak their minds or denies them freedom of speech.  HR 254 protects Christians as well as homosexuals from hate-motivated acts of violence.  Repent America has mounted a propaganda campaign against something that isn't there, simply because members of their group were arrested in Pennsylvania (and may have been done so illegally -- this is being determined now in court).  Still, HR 254 only enhances the laws, makes them broader and strengthens the penalties, that have been on the books since 1994 and does absolutely nothing to take away any Christian's right to freedom of speech.  Here's the text.

WHIMSEY
I am right there with you. The issue is not gay it is Christian. The right to free speech by Christians.
