Good
I think we're all part of everything.  A song, a movie, a memory, reality....the whole lot is joined together somehow.  It's good to hear you reaching for something and not knowing.  People tend to fall into the trap of thinking they 'know' all of the time.  We don't, we can't!!  Good post, thank you.

Have a great day...

Sincerely,

Benjamin L.M.

Dreams
come from the subconscious mind which is 88% of our brain.  The other 12% is the conscious mind.  Our past resides in the subconscious mind, which is activated when we are asleep (or are under hynosis), and this is where dreams originate from.  They are the stuuf of our memories, fears, and supressed feelings.

straightforward
Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) in his work "The Interpretation Of Dreams" analysed dreams in order to understand aspects of personality. He believed that nothing occurred by chance. Every action and thought is motivated by our unconscious at some level. We tend to hold back our urges and repress our urges and impulses which must be released in some way - that is, through our dreams. Freud understood the symbolic nature of dreams and believed they were a direct connection to our unconscious, what Freud refers to as the id. The id is centered around pleasure, desire, unchecked urges and wish fulfillment. During the day, these desires are suppressed by the superego, which acts as a censor for the id. The superego enforces the moral codes for the ego and blocks unacceptable impulses of the id. Because your guard is down during the dream state, your unconscious has the opportunity to act out and express the hidden desires of the id.
