Too many syllables, Ciel. Good idea to steer clear from that word.
Fanatic is bad enough, but socially acceptable.  Remember, people make fun of trekkies but they're acceptable.  Except for those that play dress up (even when the convention isn't in town).  That's a bit much...

Hmm-- you've made me think... why do I hesitate wear the 'ran' label?
Pondering on this, it comes down to a link in my mind between 'fan' and 'fatuousness' and it is the label of the latter I am most cringing from.

You are, Ciel. And what is wrong with that?

I highly recommend the new series, particularly the first season

as that was Christopher Eccleston's Doctor, and I thought he was perfect for the role.  But he declined to do more than one season, and then passed the TARDIS along to David Tennant who is not so much to my taste, personally, but is still fun to watch.

I agree with their choice to upgrade the technology and production values-- the aliens and sets are terrific!  And they are not shy of giving the show a more romantic, sexier tone, something that before they deliberately avoided.  (Except for Tom Baker who could 'inuendize' with his eyes and tonality, and did as much as they would let him get away with...)

I sound like a fan, don't I?  Maybe I am...

Southerners have another saying, Ciel, "A southerner's favorite sight is
the southern end of a northbound Yankee."  Dr. Who is cool.  I haven't watched any of the new shows and very few of the old.  But I read a couple of the many books.

To quote one of my favorite characters, "Lots of places have a north!"
In case you haven't been tuning in, that's from Doctor Who... also known for "Life is just Nature's way of keeping meat fresh."
