When I think of people's power I think it's the description of those who are marginalized or disenfranchised trying to get their voices heard in one cause. Mob majority is negative energy. It leads to violence and riot behavior. Majority rule happens when people don't want to break status quo. Sometimes majority rule could be a good thing because it is a consensus--an agreement. Sometimes it is a bad thing because there might be one factor that is being overlooked. An example: Supposing there was a space shuttle to be launched. Everyone is working hard to meet the deadline, and they consented all systems go. However, one particular engineer has seen an error. Had he voiced out this error and stopped the launching it would have prevented the space shuttle from exploding.

That's why it's good to have sensible politicians. (I think they exist)

I'd rather they made the informed decisions.

The mob cannot decide anything with any accuracy or careful consideration.

Majority Rule?

Majority rule (true democracy) is the equivalent of a lynch mob. That's good if you're in the majority and not the one being lynched.

That's a series of questions well worth chewing on. In our modern history we've seen the results of frenzied mobs carrying out destruction and also grass roots movements that have gained sufficient strength of numbers to remove dictatorships. I guess the nature of the majority is best judged by what they are seeking to achieve and the manner by which they seek to achieve it... but then what is a noble revolution to one may be an act of treachery to another.
