Deepananda, Moon
I am enjoying the comments page as well. Great to see the two greats discussing on the subject.

Thank you for your observation. Yes! Though Jesus and earlier prophets had said that prisoners set free, it was literally interpreted in the organized church. The flowering of gnostic thought was siffiledconsigned to heresy after the first 3 centuries of christianity.

Deepananda, yes, in the West, it seems that only a very few, like Jung, could understand these things; and even these great minds were shackled to some extent by their Western conditioning. Thank God, however, for their influence. As a Westerner, I am free to say: The Western mind can be so obtuse. MoonSpirit

Thank you for your appreciation. I presented a paper on 'The gnostic Fiber of Thomas evangelization and its appeal to Indian psyche' and I have extensively refered to Steven Davis, Marvin Meyer and Richard Valantasis. There is also excellent resources available, both for coptic and Engilish translations, on the internet.

Deepananda -
Excellent, excellent post!! The Gospel of Thomas is one of my favorite scriptures. I wonder if you have read Ron Miller's book The Gospel of Thomas, with translations by Steven Davies?

I must thank Bhaskar for sending me this link. Profundity abounds!  Another of my pet peeves with religionists is the too literal translation of scripture.  Gnosticism used to be reviled and persecuted and Gnostics are starting to creep out again, thank the Creators. I must catch up on reading your other posts, Deepananda, if they are all so refreshingly filled with truths as this one was.

Excellent post, DEEPANANDA. Androgyny would be the preferred state for
one attempting to renounce the temptations of the flesh, whether those temptations be of male or female...

What a delight it is to read your profound posts! The exact similar words were used by Mahaveera that unless women become men in some future birth, there can be no hope of their liberation. I knew that there must be some hidden message enshrouding it. Today it is far more clear.
