El Tel, an excellent post. The devil is certainly in the detail!

Also, some valid comments at the end. It's nice to read about sumptuous feasts and copious quaffings, and then have some polemic in there as well. What a satisfying combination!

This whole series of yours is utterly delightful! And it brings to mind the 'Two Fat Ladies', Jennifer Paterson and Clarissa Dickson Wright , who used to travel about Britain on a Triumph motorcycle and sidecar, preparing classical 'Olde English' dishes in a variety of fabulous mansions and such. It was a show I watched regularly, but it all came to an end when Jennifer Paterson died, at the age of seventy-one.

I don't know if you ever had the pleasure of watching those shows, but if they're available on video, do yourself a favour and get them. I know you'll get a charge out of those two!
