When we used to visit the country farm in the winter, the built a fire in the kitchen cookstove and one in the potbellied iron stove in the parlor (just for company the parlor one) and everyone hunkered around those.  Everything else was shut off.  When we stayed all night, we slept under a pile of quilts and dressed under those quilts in the morning pulling the clothes in to warm them up before changing.

Dang I wonder if they were sugar ants? I keep a couple of doors shut in the daytime, but we have had a miserable winter. This last week we got a couple feet. My driveway is still not plowed. I just hope spring comes on time and without critters!!

Sorry Joe. No offence was intended. I judged it wrong. My apologies.

I'm with you on this one Joe, scared, because we've had 2

houseflies, who I've christened 'Clark' & 'Kent' who've survived the winter, swatting, and appear to have a longevity previously unrecorded in their species.

They've been around the last couple of weeks, driving us mental.  We live right next to a farm, so we've got the hens, geese and dogs roaming in from next door.  The pregnant cat must have cravings for Al's French toast, because every time he makes it, she's there mewling at the window.  We have horses in the field adjoining our house also, as the farmer boards them.

Now we have two super flies.  When Al Gore's done with your ant, send him round please.

It's global warming all right...
Just wait until the ants start mutating into giant, damnation alley sized buffalo ants...

I thought ants hang around all year...you just don't see them in winter.
Or so I thought. think?

my sister and her boyfriend installed a wood burning stove and placed an
arc of sheet metal behind it.  the curl of the sheet threw the heat out into the nearest rooms, it worked very well.

The devil sends ants to Bumfolk when hell freezes over. Or so I hear.  :)

For some reason I have a vivid image of the white
with gold flecks.  Somebody in my life had them, but I can't remember who.

Ants in winter. I hear the looming heat of summer.
I smell the music of disaster. Life as we know it will become even more miserable.

Al Gore and his Power Point thingy – you’re a hoot! Maybe the ant is just looking for some warmth, Joe (or found Georgia’s cooked bambi stash).

Ants in your pants?
For your sake, I hope it wasn't a Scouter ant!

Hahahaha Joe....you are a wonderful storyteller....I could just see you

freaking out over the ant!  BTW, I hope you checked your coffee cup before drinking! LOL

Better an ant than a roach. This was fun to read.

Lol, I remember those closed doors too and yep, have one or two now myself

...:) Used to be a reward of winter - probably the only one - was freedom from invading, flying, annoying, stinging, etc. creatures. A couple of weeks ago, I spotted some type of winged thingy outside and it wasn't a bird.

Good post Joe Love.

I used to live out in the country...
It's not that unusual to see ants, spiders, bees, beetles, etc in the winter time. Of course, I live in the south.
