Good post...very informative...
IMO the reason Americans don't know about stuff like this is that we're sort of lazy when it comes to current affairs, history, etc.
We like to watch TV, movies and play video games. We eat too much and don't give much serious thought to life in general.
Have you ever seen "JayWalking" on the Jay Leno show? Those people he interviews are really stupid but there are alot more of them than we realize.
