Even though I was a baseball fan well after Burdette probably retired, I remember seeing pictures of him playing during the 1957 Series. (I'm a South Sider, but a Cub fan - a very big deal here in Chicagoland, where you're expected implicitly to be a Sox fan if you're from the South Side.) That's how I'm familiar with him.
Yes, we baseball fans are true history geeks, too.
