Great Point!
The pioneers were thinkers outside the box or they would have stayed in settled areas.
If the pioneers had somebody like Terri, they would be doing everything they could to help her instead of starving her to death.
Without leaving the impression that I'm changing my anti-death-penalty stance, let me make the observation that, back in pioneer days, Michael Schiavo wouldn't have been seen as a hero. Instead, he would have HANGED!

Good point about the "pioneer days" defense
It seems to me that such talk misses the whole point of what being a pioneer was all about. Then, it was all about trying something new. It is really very sad that now people have the impression that pioneers were not innovative and were unwilling to use technology. It makes a mockery of the "pioneer spirit" to misuse the word "pioneer" so egregiously!
