isit fact or fiction?
The book is true, the interpretations are flawed.
It is part history, part philosophy. Some theories are disproved through the application of time, other's merely stand by awaiting confirmation/dismissal.

TV, very nice. Even the goal of inner peace is a goal.

Ben, what kind of prophet would I be
if I didn't throw out some scripture every once in a while. The book may not be true but that doesn't mean good things weren't written in it.

Whysper, good point.
Most of my current goals, I see as needs. Some of my wants will be fulfilled along the way as a side effect.

Success
I have to agree with the saying as I've seen it the truth in it first hand. Even the action of "not wanting" and "being happy where you are" are goals that you must first desire and then put into action. Being successful is best defined by the individual and is usually determined by what their goals are... perhaps it's loads of money for one or inner peace and spiritual growth for another, but regardless, the method of achieving it is the same... choose it as a goal, then take action of some sort.

Getting motivated has been a real problem for me today, so what you said in here resonated with me. BTW, that's in the Epistle of St. James, I believe - the reference to "faith without works is dead."

Ah, now it's the opposite of my children's problem
They constantly think that their wants are needs. You are talking about a need and treating it as if it were a want.
One should do their best to see to their needs, the wants are just extra things to pass the time.

Whysper, I have to disagree with that
If you are starving to death, wanting more food is normal. Being happy about starving to death might gain inner peace but you also die.

Getting what you want?
The problem with getting what you want, is it only leads to wanting more.
The real goal should be to want what you already have, to look within for the answer, for there is nothing outside you that can make you complete.

Success -
So true, so true. If you haven't, read Think And Grow Rich. It goes into incredible detail about how successful people became successful. Ultimately, they had dreams, and they worked every day to make the dreams real.
