I have a personal opinion regarding this; for the same reason I do not keep a steady supply of chocolate at home, I choose not to view pornography. I know what it does to me. I am a single woman and I love chocolate!

I was going to go on and on about the seven deadly sins and how they engender vice by repetition; biblically or psychologically, these temptations by human nature are so overwhelming at creating mood altering and sensation, we are prone to recreate them, reinforce them, justify them and voila…addiction occurs.

Now, if I were married of course, I still would not keep a steady supply of chocolate at home! Just my two-cents worth.

I wrote this question because I have a great number of male friends that constantly want to play a "one upsmanship game" trying to get women that are better than the one they had before , these are the same men who subscribe to Victorias Secret Catalogues and Playboy, I felt that their obsession interefered with realistic relationships with good women that they discarded. As a woman on my own personal observation, I would have to agree with you.

you have brought alot of good points to the table, and how true that advertsing does influence a certain "temptation" shall we say, as well.

Well, joanna,
I don't let porno to influence my expectation. It's the woman herself.

I think Porn could definitely have this affect.

Pornographic imagery is no different from any other. Televison and magazine ads are designed to make the consumer identify with the product by appealing to our vanity. If you're this kind of person, you must drive this kind of car, wear this brand of clothing, use this type of techo-gadget, etc. Ad agencies aren't technically poisoning our minds. They've simply learned how they work and take advantage of it. If the imagery strikes us as being even remotely true, after repeated viewings our minds somehow transforms it into the truth. Even the most intelligent and enlightened fall for it. If such is the case for something as basically harmless as a TV commercial, then it's safe to assume such is true for pornography.

However, I don't think there's anything wrong with adults watching pornography featuring adults (in this case I mean depictions of sexual acts excluding violence and extreme fetishes). It's too much of it (and unfortunately, I have no idea what constitues "too much") combined with not enough real world experiences and little knowledge of human sexuality that's potentially the problem. When pornography is the main source of "sex education" the sexist point of view could skewer an individual's perspectives and expectations. Of course too much pornographic imagery could have the same detrimental effect on women too. The only way to combat negative imagery is with positive imagery.
