Bummer that they didn't have the show when I was younger
I am still in good voice, but I am too old to audition at 48. They should have another show "American Late Bloomers" or "Missed Talent".
Otherwise, it is just too annoying watching singers I could easily outperform competing for recording contracts.

My wife watches the show, but I make it a point to avoid the train wreck audition episodes. It's much better later in the season, once they've whittled the number of contestants under 10. You can see who's really good and who's just average. Overall, the show really isn't a talent contest. It's a popularity contest. The audience doesn't automatically vote for the best.
